AZERBAIJAN: premium amounts on compulsory medical insurance to be set

The amendments to the law "On medical insurance" were put up for discussion and were proposed to set insurance premiums for compulsory medical insurance, as Trend reports referring to chairman of the parliamentary health committee Ahliman AMIRASLANOV.

"The relevant work has been carried out for a long time, pilot projects are being implemented, the countries' best practice is being learnt in connection with the use of compulsory medical insurance in Azerbaijan," AMIRASLANOV noted, emphasizing that compulsory medical insurance is an important social program for the country.

Azernews reports that the proposal was made to set insurance premiums for compulsory medical insurance as:
  • 1% of the amount up to AZN 8,000 (~USD 4,715) from the wage fund and 1% of a salary (including AZN 8,000) in 2020, 2% from 2021 - for the insurers and for the insured people accordingly not involved in the oil and gas sector and employed in the private sector by using a coefficient of 0.5% to the part exceeding AZN 8,000 of an employee's salary;
  • 2% of the amount up to AZN 8,000 from the wage fund for the insurers and 2% of the salary for the insured people involved in the oil and gas sector and employed in the public sector by using a coefficient of 0.5% to the part exceeding AZN 8,000.
