Bulgaria FSC head resigns, to become the country's EBRD representative

The Chair of the Financial Supervision Commission Karina KARAIVANOVA is leaving the post three years earlier after she resigned on February 19 ahead of taking the position as the country's representative at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on March 1. She was nominated by the Cabinet to the post in December 2018.

Karina KARAIVANOVA was elected as Chair of the Financial Supervision Commission on July 28, 2016 with a 6-year mandate. She holds a Master's degree in Finance and Banking and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

She also holds a certificate from the International Program in Finance and Banking "Risk Management" at the National Institute in Bank Management - Pune, India. She holds a certificate for acquired audit skills from the Institute of Public Administration - Dublin, Ireland. She holds a certificate in Economic Policies from the Ministry of Finance - Tokyo, Japan.

Since December 2012 until February 2013, as well as from November 2014 until July 2016 she is Deputy Minister of Finance.

Chair of the Supervisory Committee of Fund "Management and Financial Instruments in Bulgaria" EAD. Member of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Fund and of the European Investment Bank.

Member of the Board of Managers of Black Sea Trade & Development Bank, International Investment Bank and Alternative Manager for Bulgaria in the IMF. From August 2010 to November 2014 is Director of "National Fund" Directorate in the Ministry of Finance, national manager of European pre-accession funds and Head of the certifying authority for the operational programs financed by the European Structural and Cohesion Funds.

From November 2006 to August 2010 is Head of Unit "Control and certification under the SAPARD Programme and the European Regional Development Fund" at the Ministry of Finance.

From August 2003 to November 2006 is Head of Unit "Accreditation and Assessment" in the "National Fund" Directorate at the Ministry of Finance. From February 2003 to July 2003 is expert on extended decentralization in the "National Fund" Directorate at the Ministry of Finance.From April 2001 to February 2002 is accountant on "Project for Regions with Coal and Steel Industries Development" of the PHARE program of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
