RUSSIA: From January to July MTPL paid claims dropped by 29%

For the first 7 months of 2018 MTPL premiums of local insurers decreased by 1% to RUB 129.9 billion* y-o-y, at that paid claims demonstrated a more rapid declining trend (- 29%) to RUB 79.7 billion, according to the data from the Russian Association of Motor Insurers (RAMI).

Besides this, based on information from RAMI, this year the average MTPL claim payment also decreased by 17% to RUB 64 thousand. The President of RAMI Igor YURGENS believes that "decreasing of MTPL average claim payment as well as total number of claimed and settled cases is directly connected with expanding use of in-kind reimbursement. Amount of paid claims dropped because insurers try to use in-kind reimbursement, especially in struggling regions with highly active "fraud traffic lawyers".
