Thierry PELGRIN has joined the underwriting team of UnipolRe

The newly established reinsurer UnipolRe has appointed Thierry PELGRIN as Senior Underwriter for France, DACH, Belgium (French Speaking Clients), Southern Europe & the CEE, reporting to Simon WIGZELL, Underwriting Manager.

Since 2016, Thierry PELGRIN has served within the global reinsurance business of Lloyd's insurer Sompo Canopius, as leader of operations in continental Europe. Previously, he spent more than 10 years with Everest Re, where his last positions were Member of the Strategic Committee for New Business Development (Europe) and Treaty Manager for Casualty & Motor business in Continental Europe.

UnipolRe is a new professional reinsurer, established in 2014, a subsidiary of UnipolSai Assicurazioni, one of Europe's largest non-life insurers and the biggest in Italy. Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, the company provides reinsurance coverage for small to medium-sized insurance companies based in Europe.

UnipolRe prides itself with two unique features: first, the deep experience of its parent company in the MTPL business, providing for access to a set of "incredibly sophisticated analytics and data around certain types of business", as the company's CEO has stated in Monte Carlo; secondly, the capacity to compete effectively on many lines of business, given that the company's return on risk adjusted capital (RORAC) objectives are lower than those of most competitors because the main purpose of its establishment was business diversification. A.M.Best has assigned an A- rating to UnipolRe.
