By the end of September 2023, the number of customers covered by private health insurance continued to grow reaching almost 4.7 million, despite the inflation-driven increase in the prices, Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa (Insurance Gazette) wrote.

Data collected by the Polish Insurance Association shows that after three quarters of 2023, 4.69 million people were covered by private health insurance, which is almost 15% more y-o-y. Total amount of expenses on this type of insurance reached PLN 1.17 billion/~EUR 0.25 billion (vs PLN 880 million a year ago), which means an increase of nearly 34%.

According to the Association, the increase is mainly due to two factors: new sales (new customers and products) and rising policy prices. The latter is a consequence of inflation and increasing rates of medical services and primarily medical visits.
