In 2023, there were just over 1.7 million claims on MTPL and MoD insurance. The most dangerous months turned out to be May and October, while the most dangerous days of the week were Mondays and Fridays - according to data from the Insurance Guarantee Fund (UFG), Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa (Insurance Gazette) wrote.

At the end of 2023, the UFG database contained 28.52 million active MTPL contracts and 7.32 million MoD policies. A year earlier, these numbers were 27.57 million and 6.97 million, respectively.

Last year, insurers paid a total of PLN 16.57 billion/~EUR 3.82 billion under motor insurance policies (vs PLN 14.67 billion a year ago) with October-December being the most expensive quarter for insurers. During the last quarter the insurers paid PLN 4.5 billion, compared to PLN 4.05 billion in the first quarter, PLN 3.93 billion in the second quarter and PLN 4.09 billion in the third quarter.

The largest number of claims reported to insurers occurred on Fridays and Mondays, while the most dangerous months for MTPL and MoD turned out to be May and October. These months accounted for 8.8% and 9.3% and 9.1% and 8.2% of the total claims from these motor insurance segments recorded in 2023, respectively.
